Benefits of Dennettia Tripetala

     Dennettia Tripetala usually referred to as pepper fruit is a fruity pod with a tinge of pepper which belongs to the plant family of Annonaceae. In local languages in Nigeria, it is called Ako in Edo, Nkarika in Ibibio, Mmimi in Igbo and Ata Igbere in Yoruba. It grows on a tree measuring 6-10 meters in height and its fruiting season begins from late March to Late May every year depending on the volume of rain fall. The fruits/pods may come in both ripened or green pods. Pepper fruit pods have been said to stop prostate cancer, ameliorate liver disease, kidney damages caused by multiple exposures to toxic substances. It has also been said that, it prevents and treats glaucoma, food poisoning, indigestion and heart burns.   It can also be used in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, ulcers, typhoid, convulsion in children, pain relief, treatment of bacterial infections.
